The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Gaiman’s short novel takes place in a thinly veiled platonic world where one young boy is violently thrown into a nightmare-like tale where bravery must overtake fear time and time again. “The Ocean an the End of the Lane” is a horror story for young readers, but also provides a palatable amount of literary brilliance for readers of all ages.
I enjoyed this book and will carry a few of the quotes around with me for awhile. My favorite quote was by Old Mrs. Hempstock. “Nothing’s ever the same,” she said. “Be it a second later or a hundred years. It’s always churning and roiling. And people change as much as oceans.”
